Motorized Lighthouse

The brick colors and functional rotating light in this build are incredible.

Another fun build: Lego introduced the Motorized Lighthouse, another Ideas set. It has a functional light at the top of the tower and I was so interested to see how Lego would integrate that. I shouldn’t be surprised, but the set hides the infrastructure to make the light rotate very well and still provides easy access to change the batteries.

The set has 2,065 pieces in 13 bags.

And if you want to see it assembled, skip to the end.

Bag 1

Lego always manages to include so many clever elements and right away in bag 1 they include a cute grey kitten.

Bag 2

Lego will often use their more standard color bricks on interior structural components as an homage to builders who “just use the bricks they have” to create a build. It makes me smile that Lego honors that concept.

Bag 3

Another clever detail: the bat.

Bag 4

Getting the base on top of the rocks in this bag.

Bag 5

The beginnings of the lighthouse tower start in bag 5. Note the safety axe.

Bag 6

Interior details always make me smile. The fork and the teapot I think are so cute!

Bag 7

Another clever detail: the mounted fish is also a construction technique that attaches the house to the lighthouse tower.

Bag 8

The lighthouse tower begins to take shape. I’m impressed by how the lighting cable is integrated into the tower.

Bag 9

The infrastructure to attach the lighthouse tower pieces is really clever. It creates a strong connection while still making it easy to pop out.

Bag 10

And most of the tower is done.

Bag 11

The Lighthouse Keeper’s house is done!

Bag 12

The way the sides of the tower pop off to access the interior is really cool.

Bag 13

I am so impressed with how the light shines and rotates.
